Jane Skeer’s practice is rooted in personal experience and speaks directly to contemporary life. Using photography, she explores sexual identity and challenges the unspoken rules placed on women’s bodies, behaviour, and desire.
Her work plays with irony and autobiography to question who women are allowed to be, the angel or the feral. By exposing the suspicions and judgments often directed at women, Skeer examines how morality and sexuality are closely linked.
Feral presents a series of staged images that question respectability, work ethics, and the performance of being “good,” revealing how being labelled “bad” can become a source of strength and resistance.

Self Portrait
I want to tell you
what it’s like for me.
Eyes
stories wink
in the glint of skies over
silent weirs pierced with
a fierce ice blue
Dare me.
Hands
they thread in gullies
in valleys between fingers
chasing criss-crossed paths in palms
and embedded in each tip
a memory lingers
over melon skins
glances on cucumber ends
hangs from every glossy black clad limb
arms cradling vodka
like a baby
Hold me.
Mother
I give everything
it’s never enough
We know,
We know.
Hair
spun straw-gold
each mother-love is tangled
safe in silken sacs
Dare to
Touch me.
Mouth
stories they
seethe and smudge
between clenched teeth
written down by crayon lips
drawn on in slander-red
melty and clogged
with accusations
mouthed loud
from the other side
Watch me.
Legs
So I’m all dressed up with nowhere to go
She says
I just wanted to
follow my dreams at last, I mean
where the fuck
am I going to go?
Cucumber
Then I see her cucumber
Obscene
Poised
Ready
To
Go
